Timing of next redivision of State electoral boundaries

Thursday, 8 June 2017

There will be no redivision of State electoral boundaries before the 2018 State election, according to Victoria’s Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC), which met on 5 June 2017.

Under electoral law, a redivision would have been required if the enrolments for a certain number of electorates had fallen outside the allowable 10% variation from the average in the first half of 2017. Enrolment statistics considered at the EBC meeting showed that the number of electorates outside the 10% tolerance is well short of the threshold.

Other legal provisions will require a redivision to take place before the 2022 State election. The redivision will begin in December 2020.
