Timing of next redivision of State electoral boundaries

On current information, it is highly unlikely that there will be a redivision of State electoral boundaries before the next State election. That is the conclusion of Victoria's Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC), which met on 2 March.

Under electoral law, a redivision would be required if the enrolments for a certain number of electorates have fallen outside the allowable 10% variation from the average in the first half of 2009. Enrolment projections considered at the EBC meeting indicated that the number of electorates outside the 10% tolerance will be well short of the threshold at that time. There are no other legal provisions requiring a redivision before the 2010 State election.

The EBC will meet again in early 2008 to consider enrolment projections.
